The design for A Joyful Purpose is based on a quotation which I found in an old Pennsylvanian Dutch sampler. It reads;

“Joy and work for labors all Make the work and effort small”

Each border and motif were also found in antique samplers. We indeed do feel “joy” while we are stitching. The model has been stitched on a #36 linen; color: Winter Moon; from Zweigart. Two shades of DMC Raspberry floss were used in the model : #3350 and #3731. The stitch count is: 164 W x 112 H. How beautiful this would be worked in silks!
